GPS Vehicle Tracking and the Seven Secrets of Recovery

Successful businesses pull ahead in recovery...

A recent article in the June issue of Forbes Magazine entitled "Recovery's Seven Secrets" written by publisher Rich Karlgaard raises some interesting questions about businesses that rise above the pack during an economic recovery.  We thought it might be useful to examine each of the seven skill sets and how GPS vehicle tracking can help businesses and municipalities succeed.

Design.   GPS real-time tracking data can become a deluge if it is presented without a clear, intuitive user interface.  TrackerSystems.net has designed a web-based user portal that customers love for its simplicity and ease-of-use.  We owe the great design to our customers who have suggested dozzens of enhancements and improvements and to our software engineers who think as customers first.  Our goal is to provide a user interface that needs minimal instructions and help.  Most users just dive in and learn by clicking - intuitive instruction is the best design.

Speed.  Everything today depends on getting to your customers first.  Knowledge about where your assets are and when they can arrive at the next customer is crucial.  Changing assignments and adding jobs during the day makes the most efficient use of your fleet and allows you to exceed the expectations of new and repeat customers.  Differentiating yourself from the rest of your industry by providing faster service without adding assets is made possible with GPS tracking service like Tracker Systems.

Cost.  How do larger companies earn more profit than sole proprietors?  How does a 2-vehicle business grow to 20?  Of course there are economies of scale, but larger scale also means more management.  So how do successful businesses outgrow their competition and continue to be more profitable?  One answer is through the efficiency of integrated analytics in the GPS vehicle tracking and monitoring service.  Knowledge about the way your assets are used by analysis of the history of use is as important as the real-time data "where are they now".

Service.  As important as the speed of service, the quality and reliability of that service is crucial to growth.  If a customer is expecting work to be started at 1 p.m. and there's no way it is going to happen before 4 p.m., the sooner your dispartch team is aware of the situation and works out the changes with the customer the better.  Setting customer's expectations accurately from the outset and making corrections early avoids customer churn.  It's much more expensive to aquire a new customer than keep an old one.  But time and again businesses that have been successful drop the ball and don't invest a little to keep existing customers happy.

Communication Outside.  There are many ways that GPS Tracking helps communicate information with your customers and improve public relations.  Identifying speeding staff is an obvious way to avoid bad P.R.  But you can also monitor for unauthorized use.  Few things look worse than having hundreds of potential customers drive past one of your trucks with your big name plastered on the side sitting at the topless bar every night.

Communications Inside.  Keeping everyone in your organization up to date on the location and progress of staff during the day is critical.  Managers can see the location of each vehicle on the fleet tracking map and co-ordinate jobs (an example would be bringing in a plumbing crew to help move a water heater to het to an A/C air handler).  Keeping everyone feeling and acting as a unified team is crucial to success as a business grows.

Purpose.  "The better companies know how to codify all the procedures and good habits that make success routine...Driven by purpose, they create a movement and consequently get the most discerning and loyal customers" - entrepreneur and author Simon Sinek as quoted by Rich Karlgaard.  We couldn't have said it better!
