A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words
You know the old adage that a still image of something can, with its great detail, tell a story that would otherwise take a thousand words to explain. That holds true with some of the powerful features of the mapping engine of our real-time GPS vehicle location system.
The standard mapping engine we use has three modes – road, aerial, and bird’s eye. The road and aerial views can be zoomed in and out multiple levels. The bird’s eye zooms in one order of magnification. This map engine is continuously upgraded to provide the latest map data available. There are multiple ways to zoom in and out as well as pan the map image. A simple double click on the map centers that point on the screen and zooms in one level.
The road view gives you the greatest level of detail for highways and byways, listing all names and points of interest. This mode uses various colors to distinguish the various types of roads. It also uses color to identify parks, golf courses, water, and residential neighborhoods.
The aerial view displays satellite imagery that in many cases allows you to zoom in to a level that reveals surprising detail of an area where a client vehicle may be traveling through or parked at. This is where the "picture is worth a thousand words" kicks in. The high detail enables you to see the actual place where the vehicle is. You can differentiate buildings from parking lots and even see which parking place a vehicle may be parked in.
To "see" even greater detail, you can switch to the bird’s eye view. This viewpoint is provided by low flying aircraft which create a library of images of points on the map from the four different vantage points of the compass – North, East, South, and West. You can call this viewpoint "the picture that is worth ten thousand words". We have had customers that were able to identify the name of the business by looking at the sign on the building. Unfortunately, for the worker that was taking a break at the local strip club, things didn’t work out so well.
Like so many aspects of our real-time GPS vehicle tracking system, we provide you with multiple tools to get the job done with the easiest to use and most intuitive interface available today.
