Real-time vehicle tracking and monitoring systems help parents monitor their teen's driving habits. One of these habits, a bad one, is excessive speed. Obviously, every parent would want to know if their child is driving at excessive speeds. It is more than a matter of breaking the law. It could mean life and death.
The GPS tracking device which is an integral part of a gps tracking system, collects various metrics of the vehicle's status based upon specific events. One such event is the movement of the vehicle. Whenever the car, truck, or SUV is moving, the onboard tracking device is instructed to collect the GPS data once every two minutes. The data consisting of time, location, heading, and speed, is sent over the cellular network, through the internet, and store in a server each time this event occurs.
The tracking system takes the SPEED information and presents it to the end-user in a number of useful ways. One is through the display of the current speed wherever the vehicle icon is displayed on the mapping system. Another way is through the report module. There is usually a dedicated Over Speed report that allows you to select a certain date range and filter it for specific speed thresholds. Finally, to be notified immediately of a potential excessive speed, the system typically allows speed limits to be set which if exceeded will trigger an e-mail alert to the parent or other designated alert contact.
The best gps tracking software has a web-based user interface that has many features. Particularly useful for tracking your teen, is the geo-fence setting. The Geo-Fence can be used to place a virtual boundary around your child's home, school, boyfriend or girlfriend's home, or any unauthorized location. Whenever this virtual perimeter is violated, an e-mail message can be sent to provide an immediate notification. One more feature that is useful to the concerned parent is the Unauthorized Use Alert. With this feature, you can assign a day or time-of-day that the vehicle is not allowed to be used. Again, if this rule is broken, an immediate alert will be sent to the Alert Contact.
