Tick Tock, Tick Tock, The Clock Is Ticking ...

GPS vehicle tracking is about more than just location. In many cases, time is more important than location when tracking vehicles or assets. Take idling for instance. It is more critical to know how long a vehicle is idling rather than where it is doing the idling. But, whether time or location is important, the data that the two provide in a combined manner is invaluable.

There are several different reports that provide information on the twin GPS data parameters – time and location. First, we will look at the Stop report. This report provides a list of all the stops (where the ignition is switched off) and idling stops, along with the start and end times (duration) of these types of stops. To increase the value of this report, addresses are provided as well as a toggle switch to display nearby Landmarks that have been defined by the user of the system. With this report, time and location play equally important roles

Another vehicle tracking report that provides information about time and location is the Excessive Idle report. This provides the address and duration of idling events that exceed a specific amount of time that can be set by the user. As mentioned earlier, the time factor plays a more important role in this report. Reducing the amount a vehicle idles by just 5 minutes per day can nearly pay for the cost of the system.

Even the Geo-Fence History report is made more valuable by recording the exact time a vehicle enters or exits a predefined geographic boundary. Many clients use this as a time clock. They create a Geo-Fence around their shop. Whenever a company vehicle enters and leaves, the GPS coordinates and time of day are transmitted to our servers. This data is stored in our database for the customer to view on demand. Periodic reports can be run on individual units or the entire fleet to verify payroll records.

The time function of our GPS vehicle tracking system is very accurate because the time is ascertained from the GPS satellite. They use atomic clocks which are the most accurate in the world. Even though our GPS satellites aren’t going tick tock, rest assured they are tracking the time and location of your assets more accurately than you can imagine to save you money, and make you money.
