How do I get there... an where am I?

I had a GPS Tracking customer tell me the other day how our real-time vehicle tracking system helped one of their dispatchers get a driver back on track. The guy was filling in for the regular driver and wasn’t familiar with the area on the route. At some point in the day, the supervisor saw that the driver was falling behind on his deliveries. The supervisor quickly put the features of our system to use.

Tracker Systems has added a flexible Landmark feature to the MyTracker GPS Mapping Service.  Now you can add a "Landmark" icon on the fleet view and unit map view to help identify locations that their vehicles routinely visit.  Once a landmark is established, all new location reports from the vehicle's on-board GPS unit will be logged with the nearest landmark.  Later, when reports are run, you are be able to display the nearest landmark for each vehicle GPS report.

The Landmark feature now feeds into most reports on the Tracker Systems customer website.  This is a major timesaver because now you can pinpoint visits to customer locations, supply depots, and company locations as well as places your drivers should not be visiting.  Once you input the Landmarks, every location report from the Tracker unit will be compared to the list of Landmarks in the Database.  When you run reports, like the stop report, you can select the "show landmarks" feature.  The report will now list those reports that are within a selectable distance from any landmarks in your account's database.  You can easily compare time cards and route lists to the Tracker GPS report to verify payroll, customer billing, etc.

GPS Terminology abounds these days.  Thought we’d take a moment to cover two ‘new’ words that appear in the technical vernacular: GeoCoding and Reverse GeoCoding.  Both GeoCoding and Reverse GeoCoding are critical for GPS Tracking systems and allow for converting the data received from the tracking device into useful information.
