Choosing a GPS Car or Truck Tracking Device

Plug & Play GPS Tracker

OBD-II gps car trackers are great for employee owned vehicles. Also, they are good where multiple drivers use the same vehicle. Of course, they are good in situations where installation is hard. These car trackers plug into the OBD-II port, which is found under or near the steering wheel.

An added advantage of this car tracker is that it sends some key engine data to our servers. This data may include: fuel load, VIN, and error codes. (By the way: OBD-II is short for on-board diagnostic port. The OBD-II port is used by mechanics to detect car and truck engine problems.)

Installed GPS Tracking Devices

Installed trackers are less likely to be tampered with, simply because they are usually hidden out of view under the dashboard. Therefore, this keeps them out of the reach of drivers or thieves. Installation is a three wire hookup, similar to a car stereo. We include installation documentation with every order.

Installed gps tracking devices offer features such as battery backup and PTO/Auxiliary inputs. In other words, PTO/Auxiliary inputs enables the tracking of on/off status of custom equipment: lights, pumps, motors.

Both Plug and Play Trackers and Installed Trackers get their power from the vehicle. If the car battery dies, trackers with backup batteries will continue to collect data and send it to our servers. Additionally, low battery alert messages can be generated by some of the devices. Enable the battery guard feature and receive alerts from our system.

Store & Forward

Most of the tracking devices we carry have store and forward capabilities. Store & Forward kicks in automatically when the tracking device is in an area where it cannot connect to cell service. The device saves its location information until it reconnects. After that, it downloads the data to our server.
