Time Tracking

One of the most valuable benefits of GPS Tracking Information is time tracking. The tracking device receives accurate time and position from the GPS satellite constellation. It can also sense whether the vehicle's ignition is on or off. Armed with this data, Tracker Systems' tracking software can tell you with a great deal of repeatable accuracy where the vehicle is when it stops. Run Time, Distance, Idling time and Stopped time can be compared to employee time sheets and compared across your fleet to identify less than optimal or inefficient routes as well as employees spending time at activities other than work.

The nimbleGPS software tracking platform displays the time and location in multiple places – both on maps and on reports. The Fleet Map displays where your vehicles are at the current time. Each one is displayed on the map using an Active Status icon. It provides an instant visual cue as to what the current status is of the vehicle. Mouse over it and you will see the precise time the GPS location was recorded. A breadcrumb trail shows the history of the vehicle’s route. Each record is displayed on the map with its Active Status icon showing whether the vehicle was in motion, idling, or stationary. The exact time can be determined by using the Time Line playback control tool or mousing over the icon.

Reports are another way to get time and location. There are two types of Stop reports – Basic and Advanced. Each of these show the beginning and end time of the stop, the total duration in hours and minutes, and if the vehicle was started but remains idling. Finally, they provide the duration of the traveling segment to the next stop. The reports provide three types of information – Chart, Summary and Details. The first thing you see when you run the report is a color-coded Graph showing idle, traveling and stopped segments. This Graph is especially handy when analyzing the performance of the whole fleet. The Summary provides the total time of all idling, stops, and traveling for each vehicle that is queried. Details show each start, stop and idling event in the order in which they occur.

The difference between the Basic and Advanced reports is degree of detail. The Basic Stop report only shows stops of a couple minutes or longer. The Advanced report displays each instance in which the ignition was turned on/off. So, if the vehicle came to a stop, was turned off, and 30 seconds later it was turned back on to roll up a window, it would show up on the Advanced report but not the Basic one. A practical application would be a water delivery service that wants to see each and every stop where a delivery is made. The Advanced Stop report will show each one as the truck makes deliveries from shop to shop in a strip mall for instance.

With these reports, you have a great Time Tracking tool to help measure productivity and increase it. It is a fool proof way to track employee time. Use the Basic Stop report as a virtual time card. If employees are submitting their own time sheets, our time tracking tools will enable you to audit those requests and reject or accept them with a great deal of confidence.
